A dear friend of mine once dubbed Valentines day as "Singles Awareness Day." When she told me this I cracked up- it is oh so true, at times! I have NEVER had a "secret valentine" or a known valentine, for that matter (unless you count the little boy who gave me a heart when I was a little girl that said "I like you," which I promptly threw in the trash can... not very loving of me, ay?). So, there are occasionaly thoughts on this day of loneliness and longing.
What is needed is a new attitude toward this sacred day. After all, we want to celebrate love! To celebrate the union of a man and woman, set apart as a couple to fight side by side in this battle against Satan. It is so necessary in our day and age of "free love" and flippant disregard for the covenant of marriage. St. Valentine was martyred for refusing to comply with the law that forbid marriages- in fact, he continued to perform the ceremonies despite warnings. He died because he valued the scriptures and God's foundation for the family- the love of a man and a woman.
There is also the celebration of the greatest Love ever- Christ's love for His bride, the Church. That means us! Even if we aren't married, we are still the bride of Jesus and should never give in to loneliness, because we have the perfect Husband! A Husband who died to save us and make us princesses! Oh the wonder of so great a love!
So, this Valentines day, ladies, make sure you thank your parents for their love for one another. Give your Dad and Mom something to show them your appreciation for their dedication to sticking with each other through thick and thin. Then get on your knees and thank the Lord. Because, even if Mr. Right never comes along, you have a God who loves you more than anyone ever can!

AMEN!As I am only 14 there is no chance of me marrying any time soon. But a conversation with my older sister who is married has taught me to enjoy being single and to enjoy the freedom of it for married women are concerned with the home but a single woman is free to be just concerned about what Jesus wants, that is in the Bible not sure where. So enjoy being single for the time God has set for you.He knows if you are a better influence for Him single or married.We need to learn to be content with what He gives.
So true, Em! I beleive that passage is in 1 Corinthians 7, where it talks about the gifts of marriage and singleness. Married sisters are such a blessing and they put things into perspective for us! ; )
