Everyday with Kayla Kay

Strawberries MMMMMMM!

Every year we so enjoy strawberry picking. If you live in Maine or have ever lived in Maine you understand me completely.

This year the strawberries were extra delicious and Marshall, Nanny ( my mom), uncle Ethan and I put up about 40 quarts together. we had a great time.

Marshall loves Strawberries. He didn't want to stop eating : )

Here are some great Strawberry drink recipes to try on those extra hot days to cool you off. Hope you enjoy them.
Honey- Berry Float
1 qt. Chilled milk
1/3 c. honey
2 cups crushed strawberries
1 tsp. Almond extract
2 cups vanilla ice cream
Combine milk, honey, strawberries, almond extract and ice cream in blender. Blend until smooth. Pour into glasses and garnish with scoop of ice cream on top. Yields 6-8 servings.
Strawberry Lemonade
1/2 c. sliced strawberries
1 TB. Sugar
2 TBS. Frozen lemonade concentrate
1/2 c. water
4 ice cubes
Combine all ingredients except ice cubes in blender and blend until smooth. Pour into 2 glasses, add ice cubes and garnish with floating strawberries if desired. You can add the ice cubed in blender and blend with rest of ingredients if you want more of a slushy. Enjoy.

Life With Puppy: One Year Later

On year ago today I was given a gift......
...well, at least sometimes I think of her that way!  ; )
But in all honesty, though my dog is hyper when around people, goes shooting into the neighbors' yards to visit, runs away in the middle of the night when I am unable to yell "Nettie, come!!!," and generally has the appetite and palate of a goat, I love this big white, Gromit-looking puppy of mine.
The Lord has used her to show me some awful sins in my life- like selfishness and lack of patience! She has been a catalyst for more discipline and consistency. She is even helping me to develop the "mommy voice" (which in my case, often ends in kids pointing at me whilst laughing).
There are days when I have trouble not thinking of my uncle with malice,
and other days where I am supremely thankful for the little white gift he gave me.
Sometimes she's the source of comfort and cuddles and comedy, while others merely chaos!
But, as I believe God works all things together for my good and His glory, I know there is a purpose for my pretty little goat-dog, Nettie.
To all those who have puppies, may you grow in character!

Spring Goings on at the Chick(en) Coop

Ethan's tree fort- a project that he and Dad have been working on together!
Pip is an immense source of smiles and laughter- what a blessing! How could anyone want to destroy babies??
Our vegetable garden- we're not sure if we've bitten off  more than we can chew!!
mmm... garlic!
Ethan, in the heat of battle...

The heavens declare the glory of God;
And the firmament shows His handiwork.
Ps 19:1
Marshall being a big boy!

Ethan "testing" Marshall's swimming pool!

After having the garden rotortilled (spelling?), we had to dig through the dirt and get out as much of the grass roots as possible.

Praise God for the beauty and colors of spring!
