Generation Me

“Be true to yourself!”

“I don’t care what other people think!”

“Create your own standards and morals. ”

If these are phrases that you’ve grown up hearing all around you, have been ingrained in your head and have viewed being lived out amongst those of your peers, then you are most likely a member of my generation.

Generation Me is the more appropriate title for Generation X. If you were born in the 70s, 80s or 90s then you too belong to this less than reputable generation. It seems that the majority of those born in those decades have heard these sayings over and over again and have made them their mantra.

Generation Me is all about self-fulfillment, self-esteem, self-discovery and tolerance. Notice the key word in most of those phrases?

It would be tempting to look around you at this generation, which is now coming into adulthood and all the roles of leadership in this country, and feel discouraged. But thankfully, there is a great Hope for all of us in GenMe. Over the next few weeks I’d like to share with you what I’ve learned from the Book Generation Me by Jean Tweange and  also provide the Biblical alternative to the selfish way of life that has been expected of us. For now, I’ll leave you with this thought:

For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.

~ Philippians 2:13

Great post Amanda! "It's all about me" is a very prevalent thought pattern in our world. It's an easy one to follow as it's so tempting to our sinful human nature. We need to remember that it's not about us, it's about God! Wouldn't it be wonderful if this next generation would be raise up with a God-centered attitude and a heart to serve Him and others!
